A Love Letter to Scent, Skin, and Feeling Good
Confession: I might love body care more than skincare.
Hi Friends,
I have a confession to make. While I love skincare, I might love body care more.
As a former spa director, I spent years immersed in the world of body treatments—massages, scrubs, wraps, hydrotherapy, energy work. In resort spas, facials are popular but a lot of people see their regular esthetician at home. But body treatments, everyone wants a good massage when they’re on vacation. It’s also the time that they’re more likely to indulge in a scrub, wrap or other body treatment, which are so beneficial and can be deeply therapeutic. Applying product to the whole body – that is a large surface area – and the thought of using a stock massage oil or generic body cream always felt completely unacceptable. Absolutely not, not on my watch.
At my last spa, every massage client got to choose their own treatment product, because I believed bodywork should be a full sensory experience. Your options? A soothing unscented goat milk lotion for sensitive skin, a chardonnay grape seed oil packed with resveratrol (yes, wine for your skin), a warming Ayurvedic mustard seed oil, or our signature Italian blood orange body cream. If a treatment didn’t smell amazing, feel amazing, and deliver benefits—I wasn’t interested.
And that hasn’t changed.
For me, body care isn’t about looking better—it’s about feeling better. My post-shower ritual is non-negotiable. I don’t care if I’m running late, or if Beyoncé herself is waiting for me outside—I’m not skipping my body oil or lotion. It’s just who I am.
And while I might have good genes to thank for not getting stretch marks during pregnancy or after years of weight fluctuations, I personally credit diligent body care. Since I can remember, I’ve been slathering myself in oils and creams like it’s my job (because, well, it kind of is).
That’s why I’m obsessed with scent. It’s instant gratification. It can wake you up, calm you down, make you feel sexy, like royalty, or transport you to another place. I’ve been known to say that if a product doesn’t have a scent experience, it’s a waste of my time. I mean—there are exceptions—but mostly, it’s true. And it’s why Beauty Heroes will never carry synthetic fragrance. Beyond the petrochemical origins, I just don’t think they’re better. Natural, botanical aromas evolve, breathe, and interact with your skin. They feel alive.
Which brings me to Routine—a brand I fell for instantly.
We first discovered Routine last year while searching for a standout deodorant. We found that… and so much more.Routine is fun. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, yet the formulations are seriously good. Created by two sisters from Canada, who are clearly having the time of their lives, Routine is all about crafting botanically scented products that elevate your mood—and they do it with personality, wit, and a whole lot of heart. With scent names like Sexy Sadie, The Curator, Lucy in the Sky, Johnny’s Cash, and Cat Lady, it oozes personality.
And this February, we went big. This Discovery is oversized, packed with four full-size products to give you the full Routine experience. And let me tell you—the Beauty Heroes team is obsessed.
We chose Sexy Sadie Botanic Body Serum as the Hero product because it’s their bestselling scent, and it’s utterly intoxicating. Every time I wear it, I get compliments. But more than that, I get pressure—people want to know what it is and where they can buy it. It’s that good. Warm, sultry, with notes of ylang-ylang, sweet orange, vanilla, and cinnamon—it’s got that universal appeal that just works on (almost) everyone.
And because we wanted you to really immerse yourself in Routine, we didn’t stop there. We also included The Curator Body Cream—a thick, rich, ultra-hydrating dream. The bottle is huge and exactly what my skin craves in the winter. Then there’s The Curator Deodorant Jar—yes, we included a deodorant. A pot deodorant, no less. If you’ve never tried one, this might change the game for you. I personally use a gua sha stone to scoop and apply (because why not turn it into a ritual?), but fingers work just fine. And finally, we added Lucy in the Sky Body, Hair & Atmosphere Mist, a calming blend of lavender, vanilla, and patchouli. I mist it everywhere—on my body, my pillow, and even on my teenager’s sheets when he’s not looking. It’s my sneaky way of making sure he gets a little aromatherapy (and subliminal mom-love which is so cringe right now) at bedtime.
Routine isn’t just about great body care—it’s about making everyday rituals feel special. And I have a feeling that once you try this Discovery, you’ll be just as hooked as I am.
Let me know what you think. Really. If Sexy Sadie becomes your signature scent, if The Curator is your new favorite cream, or if you find yourself unexpectedly loving a pot deodorant. I’d love to hear.
Hero On!
